A Legendary run in Riyadh: Esports World Cup: Apex Legends

The Esports World Cup continues to showcase the greatest esports athletes to the world, hoping to change their lives in the various esports titles and competitive scenes with the glory and prize pools waiting to be acquired. As this new esports celebration continues to thrive and change the esports space, another title that helped change the competitive esports Battle Royale space took the forefront in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Apex Legends. Being one of the highly touted battle royale’s in 2024, Apex Legends provided an impressive stage of competitive integrity, giving one of the most exciting finales thus far at the inaugural Esports World Cup. Gaimin Gladiators poised to acquire necessary club points dawned the black and gold for their first time, making their introduction to the coliseum and Riyadh a successful one.

The recently acquired Gaimin Gladiators roster comprised of Jan “Lufka” Urban, Jamie “Blasts” Levine, Pawel “lighT” Haratyk formerly of OmiT started their Esports World Cup journey with group stage play slotted into Group A with very little room for failure. With powerhouse orgs including Team Falcons, Twisted Minds, Luminosity Gaming, Aurora Gaming, Team Liquid to name a few, the initial group stage portion provided only the best to push forward, in the oppressive and chaotic nature of Apex Legends esports. With every map, spawn and placement on the line the Gaimin Gladiators looked to join the contenders and make their way through the tournament's opening group stage portion - and with high expectations, the Gladiators pushed forward, contending with the best.

With only 10 games to prove themselves in the 20 team group stage beginnings, and with 9 teams vying for a grand final spot, no time was wasted and the Gladiators took form early and often. After consecutive 2nd place, and two-3rd placements alongside an impressive 14 kill game 4; the Gladiators drove  themselves into the upper echelon, finishing Group A with an impressive 5th place overall and direct qualification to Championship Sunday. With 72 points overall, behind aforementioned Team Falcons, Twisted Minds, Team Liquid, and Faze Clan the Gladiators pushed themselves into a tournament contender, vying for the grand prize, and becoming a tournament hopeful.

After an impressive opening tournament placement, and direct grand final qualification, the Gladiators looked to continue their momentum, matching up with the best of the group stage and last chance qualifier victors, competing against the very best. The grand finals provided some of the most exciting professional Apex Legends seen thus far, with teams battling back and forth in the seven hour long grand final endeavor. After unfortunate early grand final beginnings, game three changed the narrative. A victory and 10 kill game, changed the pace, bringing them up the ranks early in what would be a grueling period. Though up and down throughout, games six and eight once again showcased the roster, with 2nd and 1st placings and 9 kills combined, thus helping the team push up the tightly contested leaderboard. After splitting back and forth victories, and various teams reaching the necessary match point threshold; the Gladiators made their way into the collective needing a single victory to become Apex Legend Esports World Cup Champions. Unfortunately after 13 games of play, the Gladiators fell just short losing in Game 13 at 5th place, with Alliance taking the eventual match point victory.

After an ellating grand final, the Gladiators bowed out in a respectable 4th place overall with a combined 101 point total. The grand finals provided some of the most exciting Apex Legends seen in its lengthy competitive system, and the Gaimin Gladiators showcased to the world how close they were to glory. We congratulate our newly acquired roster on an impressive run, and can’t wait to see their future in the eye opening Apex Legends competitive ecosystem.

Congratulations to Alliance on their victory at the Esports World Cup, and we will see you all on the grandest stages of Apex Legends very soon. The Esports World Cup is not finished just yet, so stay locked into all our competitive rosters, looking to set their path to ultimate glory.
